◇ MANIFESTO

Trump
Roasted.

The man who could turn a Sunday brunch into a reality TV drama has managed to do just that with an entire country. His life is like a never-ending episode of The Apprentice, except now we're all contestants.

"His ego is so big, it's practically its own sovereign nation."
— On Trump

A Billionaire in Front of a Camera

A billionaire real estate mogul who's spent more time in front of a camera than some Hollywood actors. Trump's ego is so big, it's practically its own sovereign nation. He's the guy who talks about himself in the third person, just in case you forgot who's the star of the show.

His Twitter feed -- before it was mercifully silenced -- was like a firehose of self-congratulation, paranoia, and all-caps rants. If Trump's self-esteem were a building, it would be taller than Trump Tower, complete with gold-plated everything and his name slapped on every available surface.

His hair deserves its own segment. That gravity-defying, cotton-candy swirl is as iconic as it is perplexing. Is it a comb-over? A wig? A failed science experiment? No one really knows. His hair is the perfect metaphor for his persona: flashy, impossible to ignore, and somehow still standing no matter how many storms it's weathered.

SimCity on Cheat Mode

Trump's approach to governance can be best described as "winging it." His presidency was like watching someone play SimCity on cheat mode: tearing down institutions, building walls (literally and figuratively), and seeing what happens when you cut funding to everything but the military.

His big, beautiful wall -- supposed to be his magnum opus. Instead, it became a boondoggle of epic proportions, costing billions, achieving little, and ending up as more of a meme than a deterrent.

"Drain the Swamp" -- turns out his idea was filling it with a different kind of creature.

The Kim Jong-un Bromance

Trump's foreign policy was a mix of brash posturing and impulsive decisions that left allies bewildered and adversaries emboldened. His bromance with Kim Jong-un was like watching two middle school bullies form an uneasy alliance, complete with love letters and empty promises.

Meanwhile, traditional allies like NATO were treated like freeloaders crashing at Trump's golf resort, with the constant threat of eviction hanging over them.

A Masterclass in How Not to Manage a Crisis

Trump downplayed the virus, pushed unproven treatments, and turned mask-wearing into a political statement. His daily briefings were part circus, part horror show, as he mused about injecting disinfectant and floated whatever conspiracy theory had caught his attention that week.

The result? Over 600,000 Americans dead on his watch and a public health crisis exacerbated by his refusal to take responsibility or listen to experts.

Record Highs While Millions Are Underpaid

Sure, the stock market hit record highs -- because nothing says "economic prosperity" like a booming market while millions are unemployed or underpaid. Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy were a gift to the rich, leaving the rest of the country with ballooning deficits and crumbling infrastructure. His trade wars were more like trade tantrums.

January 6, 2021

The Capitol insurrection was the inevitable culmination of years of Trump's rhetoric, lies, and refusal to accept reality. He fueled a dangerous movement built on falsehoods, stoked division at every turn, and ultimately tried to overturn a democratic election because his ego couldn't handle losing.

Trump's policies were often more about branding than substance, designed to appeal to his base rather than to actually solve the country's problems. His presidency was a chaotic, divisive, and at times surreal ride, leaving the country more polarized and battered than he found it.

You may have been the king of reality TV, but as president, you showed us all that not every reality show needs a sequel.

"Not every reality show
needs a sequel."
