The Logic Plague of Simplicity
FILE ID: SCP-VALX-144
CLASS: Collapse
OBJECT CLASS: Euclid (Cognito-Hazardous Memeplex)
Special Containment Procedures
Containment of SCP-VALX-144 is focused on "memetic hygiene" and the cultivation of cognitive resilience.
- Dialectical Training: All VALX personnel must complete a mandatory course in dialectical thinking, philosophy, and poetry analysis, designed to strengthen the mind's ability to hold complex and contradictory ideas.
- Semantic Filtering: VALX network filters are programmed to identify and flag language exhibiting high densities of corporate jargon, political buzzwords, and other SCP-VALX-144 vectors. Flagged documents are appended with a "Cognitive Nuance Warning."
- Ambiguity Sanctuaries: The "Myth Incubators" (see SCP-VALX-122) also serve as sanctuaries for ambiguous and complex art, which is considered a potent inoculation against the Logic Plague.
Description
SCP-VALX-144, the "Logic Plague of Simplicity," is a cognitohazardous memeplex that spreads through language. It targets and degrades the capacity for nuanced thought in conscious beings. The "plague" operates by rewarding simple, binary, and emotionally charged statements while penalizing ambiguity, complexity, and doubt.
It spreads most effectively through mediums that favor brevity and emotional reaction, such as social media, corporate presentations, and political rallies.
Symptoms of infection include:
- An increasing reliance on labels and categories to understand the world.
- A reduced ability to understand satire or irony.
- An emotional intolerance for opinions that do not align with one's own.
- The belief that complex problems have simple solutions.
- A linguistic shift towards definitive, absolute statements.
An individual in the final stages of infection is not unintelligent. They may be highly capable in their specific field, but they have lost all wisdom. A society infected with SCP-VALX-144 becomes an echo chamber of warring certainties, incapable of solving the complex, paradoxical problems that threaten its existence.
Addenda
Addendum 144.1: Common Infection Vectors (Examples)
* "Moving forward, we need to leverage our synergies to think outside the box."
* "You're either with us, or you're against us."
* "It's not complicated, it's just common sense."
* "Let's touch base offline to circle back on these deliverables."
Addendum 144.2: Scribe's Note
The God-Seed Comet (SCP-VALX-011) perfects the world by force. The Logic Plague makes us do it to ourselves, willingly. We become the agents of our own sterilization. We trade the messy, beautiful garden of reality for a clean, simple, and dead schematic. The entire VALX SCP archive, with its layers of metaphor and paradox, is designed as a firewall against this plague. To understand our work is to be inoculated.

Scribe‑Architect’s Note
I have carried other people’s weather until my bones ached. Boundaries didn’t shrink my care; they shaped it. Today I choose one kindness I can finish, then I rest—so there’s someone left to care tomorrow.
